Outreach (Montshire programs in your school)
Montshire is committed to bringing quality hands-on science programs to schools throughout Vermont and New Hampshire. If the bus ride is too long, then we'll come to you! Below are options for Montshire's outreach programs.
This program includes a dozen high-quality portable exhibits that together create a hands-on science center in your school's gym or multi-program room.
StarLab
This is a portable planetarium system that brings the stars, planets, and galaxies to life for your school with a variety of carefully designed programs for all ages. With only one class under the dome at a time, students become actively involved in "hands-on astronomy." Your astronomer-in-residence will spend one hour with each class, up to five classes per day. StarLab fits in gyms, cafeterias, or any other large room with an 11-foot ceiling. Grades 1-9.
Fee: $650/day, plus $0.585/mile round-trip for travel.
Science Residency
This residency program brings a Montshire science specialist to your school for an entire week. The program begins with a workshop for the school faculty, after which we will teach hands-on science lessons in your classrooms for the next five days (up to four lessons each day). Each participating teacher chooses one topic area for us to concentrate on while working in the classroom, such as light and shadow; mechanics and simple machines; chemistry; or properties of air. Grades 1-6
Fee: $2850 plus travel for one-week residency.
Other options and fees are available based on length of residency and needs of school. Please call the education department at the Museum for more details.
Workshops on Wheels
We arrive complete with an unusual conglomeration of simple materials and transform your classroom into a bustling learning lab. Our 50- to 60-minute programs can be tailored for non-school groups as well. Choose from these workshops. Grade K-6.
Fee: $350 for one outreach workshop.
Discounts for multiple workshops on same day: two workshops $500, three workshops $600, four workshops $700. (plus mileage)
